Об обилии и разнообразии экзопланет мы рассказывали в нашем материале. Большинство открываемых планет принадлежат к газовым гигантам, на которых жизнь вряд ли возможна, но есть среди уже известных человеку экзопланет и небесные тела земного типа. И если такая планета находится в зоне обитаемости, то на ней теоретически возможна жизнь. Несколько новых планет такого типа обнаружили астрономы.

Команда исследователей из Великобритании и США обнаружила четыре планеты возле звезды Тау Кита. Две из них — в зоне обитаемости.

Тау Кита — ближайшая к нам солнцеподобная звезда, расположенная в созвездии Кита. Тау Кита чуть меньше Солнца — 0.783 солнечного радиуса и 0.79 массы. Звезда удалена от нас на 11,9 световых лет. Солнцеподобность и стабильность делают её объектом для разного рода фантастических рассказов об инопланетной жизни, а ученые прослушивают её на предмет наличия разумной жизни в рамках проекта SETI. Например, старшему поколению Тау Кита известна по песне Владимира Семёновича Высоцкого.

Ученые еще в 2012 году выяснили с помощью измерения угловой скорости, что вокруг Тау Кита вращается пять экзопланет. Согласно установленным правилам им дали имена — Тау Кита b, c, d, e, f. Приблизительная масса планет оценивалась в диапазоне от 2 до 6,6 земных, планеты имели стабильные орбиты.

Но для подтверждения своих теорий ученым требовались наблюдения независимых астрономов. Их предоставила группа исследователей во главе с Фабио Фенгом из университета Хартфордшира. Используя спектрограф HARPS, первоначальные результаты были уточнены и скорректированы.

Оказалось, что вокруг Тау Кита вращаются минимум четыре экзопланеты, с диапазоном масс от 1,7 до 6,6 земных. Две обнаруженные планеты находятся ровно на внутренней и внешней границах обитаемой зоны. Если сравнивать их положение с Землей, то наша планета сильнее углублена в зону обитаемости Солнечной системы. Более того, в системе Тау Кита вращается много обломков небесных тел, которые бомбардируют планету. Это тоже понижает вероятность жизни на Тау Кита е и Тау Кита f.

Открытие стало возможным благодаря более совершенным методам очистки получаемых данных. Астрономы проследили отклонение звезды от стабильной орбиты на 30 сантиметров в течение одной секунды, из чего сделали вывод, что на Тау Кита воздействует притяжение сравнительно небольших небесных тел. Раньше такие колебания можно было обнаружить только для планет, равных или больше Юпитера.
