Вот что он говорил в интервью журналу «Фома» (№ 4 за 2006 год): «В нашем доме поселился лётчик: красивый, во френче, с портупеей. Мне было шесть лет, и я ходил за ним с утра до вечера. Однажды он меня спросил: „Мальчик, почему ты всё время ходишь за мной?“ Я говорю: „Хочу быть таким, как вы“. – „Так будь, кто тебе мешает? Учись, занимайся спортом“. Это меня перевернуло. Я ему очень обязан, ведь если бы не он, я бы не стал космонавтом».
Увлекался рисованием
Леонов был не только космонавтом, но и художником. Вот что он говорил «Московскому комсомольцу» в 2004 году: «Ещё школьником я вёл дневник и на его обложке вывел: „Судьба моя – я сам“. Это правда. У меня всегда был кусок хлеба, который мне был дан от рождения, – живопись. Сорок лет наряду с главной работой я тружусь над живописным космосом. Не стань я космонавтом, наверное, я бы ещё больше сделал как художник».
Создал дизайн пачки «Союз-Аполлон»
Вот что говорил об этом Леонов в интервью «Российской газете»: «Было решение о выпуске совместной советско-американской продукции. Так сказать, приуроченной к космическому полету. Первыми подсуетились табачники, предложив делать на фабрике «Ява» в Москве сигареты из смеси вирджинского и молдавского табаков. В пропорции пятьдесят на пятьдесят. Получился очень хороший, качественный товар. Я оформил пачку. И коробку для конфет «Союз-Аполлон» тоже сделал».
Хотел снимать фильмы
Уже будучи известным на всю планету человеком, побывавшим в открытом космосе, Леонов стал снимать собственные фильмы. Тоже из интервью «МК»: «Первую свою самодеятельную картину я показал в новогоднюю ночь – с 68-го на 69-й год. После праздничного „Огонька“, к которому в Звёздном городке готовились полгода, я неожиданно для всех показал фильм, снятый скрытой камерой. Все хохотали до слёз. Потом я уже начал снимать тремя кинокамерами, дистанционно управляя ими. Снял я и отдельный фильм о Юрии Гагарине, когда мы вместе ходили на водных лыжах, на катере».
Был верующим человеком
Есть ли жизнь на Марсе? – спрашивали у Леонова журналисты. «На Марсе, я думаю, нет. А вот во Вселенной… Сейчас мы этого не знаем. Делаются попытки её найти, пока безуспешные. Меня, если честно, больше волнует сохранение жизни на Земле. Я много размышлял над тем, что произошло у нас после революции. Что случилось с людьми? Почему их обуяла стихия разрушения? Вспомним, как жгли иконы, которым было по сто, двести лет. Как разрушили храм Христа Спасителя, тысячи других святынь. Почему это произошло в православной стране?»
Попал в интересную историю с иконой.
«В 1982 году я летел на один из космических конгрессов, — рассказывал в одном из интервью Леонов. — Моими попутчиками оказались два священника. Они подарили мне небольшую металлическую иконку Богородицы. Прилетели в Тулузу. Нас повели на экскурсию в космический центр, расположенный в этом городе. Водили по самым секретным лабораториям, двери которых открывались специальными ключами-карточками. Подошли к одной. Сопровождающий приложил ключ. Дверь не открылась. Приложил второй раз, и вновь ничего. Тогда я достал иконку, прикоснулся к замку, и дверь открылась! Французы в шоке. Как так, икона открыла суперзамок! Потом я отдал её друзьям-космонавтам, отправляющимся на орбитальную станцию. Так она оказалась в космосе».
В честь него появился новый глагол
Факт из «Комсомольской правды» от 8 июля 1975 года: «Однажды Леонов переводил „космическую“ статью из немецкого журнала и наткнулся на неизвестный глагол „леонирен“. Искал в словарях и не нашёл. Потом кто-то из друзей догадался: „Это же „леонить“, т. е. летать в открытом космосе…“ Когда из твоей фамилии строят глаголы, это уже больше, чем известность».
